IMAGINE-NATION (WHAT IF?) An Exhibition by RSCLS Opening on 17 January 7pm Aliwal Art Centre Music Room WHAT IF WE...Embrace the reality of urban arts in Singapore? In Singapore, practicing style writing, graffiti, and muralism, all loosely and wrongfully swept under the general term STREET ART requires deft navigation of bureaucracy. What started out to be an exploration in differentiating the diverse disciplines under the banner of Urban Art and addressing the limitations and over-reaching of referring to any unconventional form of visual art as street art, turned into one massive collaboration between RSCLS and members of the urban art community. Mastering the art of expressing freely in a controlled space, in constant close scrutiny of the public and the state, the artists of the community have agreed to live a microcosm of the experience by voluntarily placing oneself in a cage to flesh out their creative process, coming to terms with their aspirations and their lived reality for the audience to ogle at; hopefully creating another shot at a discourse between the artists and the society they wish to address.
